Why do emergency medical service employees (not) seek organisational help for mental health support? A systematic review

Session Information

Employee care is patient care. Employees want time at work to consider their own mental health and wellbeing. Assumptions that employees know how to look after themselves and each other creates barriers to support utilisation. Cultural shift from reactive to preventative and genuine person-centered employee care will improve support utilisation. Reframing machismo to a narrative of respect, perseverance, and courage would help reduce stigma.

This systematic review underscores the critical need for workplace culture transformation. Employee wellbeing underpins patient care.

Understanding and acting upon factors influencing employee utilisation of supportive interventions based on review themes could bridge the gap.
